The Traitors winner says 'it wiped me out' after facing same condition as Kate (2025)

A winner of series The Traitors has opened up about suffering the same severe health battle as Kate Middleton.

Leanne Quigley spoke to Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe on their 'Parenting Hell' podcast about her struggles during pregnancy. During her appearance, Rob interjected to query if Leanne's ailment was akin to what Kate Middleton endured during her pregnancies.

She confirmed it was and proceeded to explain the impact it had on her health, how severely ill she became, and the implications for her military service.

What condition did Kate Middleton suffer from?

The Duchess of Cambridge contended with hyperemesis gravidarum – a state defined by the NHS as "excessive nausea and vomiting" – throughout each of her three pregnancies, markedly distinct from the typical morning sickness.

Initially, Leanne believed she was experiencing intense morning sickness, reports Surrey Live. Leanne admitted to Rob and Josh: "I suffered with hyperemesis. It's a sickness within pregnancy, but a really severe sickness where you can't even keep anything down.

Leanne admitted to Rob and Josh: "I suffered with hyperemesis. It's a sickness within pregnancy, but a really severe sickness where you can't even keep anything down. [Kate] was very poorly. I'd never heard of it. I just thought I had really awful morning sickness but it completely wiped me out.

"I was so poorly and maybe that's because I went through IVF. Maybe that's because I had twins, I don't know. I had to have a lot of time off work I was still in the army. I think I had about two months off work at the beginning of my pregnancy just because I was so ill."

When did Kate experience hyperemesis?

Kate addressed her health challenges during a 2020 appearance on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. She is thought to have struggled with hyperemesis throughout all three pregnancies with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Recalling her experience on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020, Kate stated: "It was fine. I got very bad morning sickness, so I'm not the happiest of pregnant people.

"Lots of people have it far, far worse, but it was definitely a challenge. Not just for me but also for your loved ones around you – and I think that's the thing – being pregnant and having a newborn baby and things like that, impacts everybody in the family.

"I was really sick – I wasn't eating the things I should be eating – but yet, the body was still able to take all the goodness from my body and to grow new life, which I think is fascinating."

What are the main symptoms of hyperemesis?

The main symptoms, according to the NHS, are:

  • Prolonged and severe nausea and vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Weight loss

Regarding the duration of recovery, they stated: "Unlike regular pregnancy sickness, HG may not get better by 16 to 20 weeks.

"It may not clear up completely until the baby is born, although some symptoms may improve at around 20 weeks. See your GP or midwife if you have severe nausea and vomiting. Getting help early can help you avoid dehydration and weight loss.

"There are other conditions that can cause nausea and vomiting, and your doctor will need to rule these out first."
